Bridges Mentoring, OnTrack

We believe that supportive guiding relationships can help transitioning women learn the skills necessary to establish safe, healthy, and independent lives for themselves and their children.   Bridges pairs women in the community with women transitioning from substance abuse treatment.  Bridges mentors maintain weekly contact with participants.  OnTrack provides comprehensive training and support to all volunteers.  Training is offered in the evening and on weekends to accommodate your schedule.  Prospective mentors are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program.  We have openings for four mentors at this time.  If you would like to volunteer as a mentor or a member of our advisory committee please contact Sue Densmore. Phone: 541-944-1139 email: sue@suedensmore.com .  You are welcome to visit one of our monthly gatherings to meet our mentors and mentees.   Some of our advisors offer classes and programs which is also a wonderful way to help.

Walk with Me – Addictions Recovery Center

The Addictions Recovery Center is seeking women to serve as mentors for women enrolled in their drug & alcohol treatment program.  Training is provided along with case management support from ARC staff.  Minimum commitment of 6 months is suggested, and just a few hours each week.  Mentors develop a strong bond with their clients as they work on recovery skills, education and work related goals, communication and parenting skills – just meeting them where they are and supporting them on their journey.  Women who want to make a difference in another woman’s life are encouraged to participate.    If interested call Ed Burns at 772-1282.  www.addictionsrecovery.org

WiLL Childcare Enhancement Project - The Family Nurturing Center

The Family Nurturing Center (FNC) is a child abuse and neglect prevention and intervention program.  The FNC helps keep children safe from harm while supporting their families as they rebuild their lives so that they can care for and nurture their children.  The WiLL project enables the FNC to offer extra out-of-home care for children whose parents are trying to get started in a job, or who need childcare for other reasons such as court, DHS meetings, etc.

The FNC welcomes volunteers to help in a variety of ways.  Some of the volunteer opportunities are as follows:  assist in the classroom, prepare snacks, ride the school bus to pick up and take children home, help sort clothes for the clothing closet or toys to be given to families, and/or provide child care for parent education meetings.  There are also opportunities to assist in the office, or help with fundraising and community outreach.

Please come share your skills to help some wonderful children heal from the trauma of abuse and neglect and be able to put the pieces of their lives back together.  Training is provided.  A criminal history background check is required for volunteers.  Please contact Mary-Curtis Gramley or Rita Vance 779-5242 for additional information.

WiLL Rental Assistance Program - The Dunn House

We are seeking one or two volunteers to follow up with the women who receive the WiLL rental assistance funding.  The volunteers will act as the liaison between the women and the program staff.  Volunteers will call the women after they move into their new apartment to check-in, inquire if they have any needs, i.e., furniture, food, etc.  The volunteer will contact the staff to update them on how the women are doing and to determine if the program has resources to help with their current needs.  The follow up contact is for a six month period. Volunteers will work with a skilled volunteer who is overseeing this activity and will have support from the program staff.  Please contact Anna D’Amato at adamato@community-works.org if you are interested.

Women in Transition - WinterSpring Center Transforming Grief and Loss

We are seeking a couple of volunteers to participate in an extensive grief and loss training program and then co-facilitate a program partially funded by Women in Living Leadership - WiLL.   The program for WiLL ‘Women in Transition’ seeks to empower women at the Jackson County Community Justice Center, in a 12-week program that will assist the women to transform their loss and grief through the power of ceremony, ritual, meditation and creative pursuits. The volunteers will aid in the program so that they may be able to run sessions with a co-facilitator at a later date with ongoing training and supervision. This requires passion and commitment to see this through. The initial training is for any professional who wishes to know more and grow more in the area of grief and loss; all of our volunteers attend this 30 hour training.  Initial commitment 30 hour training and assist in12 week program.  Contact Sue Carroll at 552-0620 or email office@winterspring.org
